Cavallaro & Sons Pasticceria opened at 98 Hopkins Street in Footscray in 1956, with Tommaso + Serena Cavallaro preparing handmade cannoli and selling them to spectators at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Their aspirations had become a reality! Using recipes handed down from his father in the late 19th century, Tommaso Cavallaro began baking and selling the family’s artisanal sweets in Footscray – including handmade cannoli, cakes, biscuits and sweets.
